The
film, which is even more of a TV play, recounts the
story of 1947/1958 trial of Cavalry Captain Witold Pilecki.
In 1945 he was ordered to return to Poland and continue
his work in the underground anti-communist organization
"NO" (Nie) established a year earlier by Colonel
"Nil" Fieldorf. Pilecki was arrested by the
communists and subjected to a horrendous interrogation.
He was sentenced to death.
Captain
Pilecki revered for his heroic acts of patriotism. In
the September 1939 campaign he led a Polish army division.
In 1940 he allowed the Germans to detain him and deport
him to Auschwitz. Over there his task was to organize
an underground military unit in the concentration camp.
He escaped from Auschwitz and fought during the 1944
Warsaw Uprising. After its downfall, he found the way
to the West where he joined the Polish Army under the
command of General Anders.

Born
in 1943 in Warsaw. Director, scriptwriter, writer, translator.
Graduated from the Philosophy Department at the University
of Warsaw, and then the National Lodz Film School (Film
Directing) in 1973. He immigrated to Canada in the early
80s where he was teaching film; returned to Poland in
the early 90s.
